As Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada began planning
their 50th Anniversary as a National Historic Site in 1988, a group of
volunteers assisted staff with the event.
The Fort Malden Volunteer Association was formed in August, 1989 by a
group of local heritage supporters, who were concerned that adequate
funds be available to sponsor special programs and park projects.
In February 1991, the F.M.V.A., which had firmly established itself,
became a registered charitable organization and a set of objectives were
established.
In August 2009 the F.M.V.A. officially became known as the Friends of
Fort Malden. The name change better reflects our role as a cooperating
organization working in conjunction with Fort
Malden National Historic Site of Canada.
